I started paddling 13 years ago in sprint kayak at Washington Canoe Club, and since then have been completely hooked. More recently, I've been paddling outrigger canoe and marathon canoe. My favorite races have been Vendee Va'a (OC6, France), Catalina (OC6, California), the General Clinton (C2, New York), and the Adirondack 90 (C4, New York).
Finish! Don't bonk. And have fun.
I moved to London in February '19 and of course the first thing I did was find a canoe club. The community of paddling ladies at Royal, Richmond, and beyond are simply fabulous and I'm always up for a challenge, so when Laura suggested we do the Yukon it was impossible to say no!
From: Worcester, Worcestershire, United Kingdom
I've been racing boats since 2001, starting with dragon boats and changing to kayaks, canoes and outrigger canoes in 2012. Racing has taken me all over the world and given me some fantastic experiences. My favourite is probably Na Wahine o Ke Kai in 2013.

I already finished the 2017 YRQ in Voyageur Class with my team and had the chance to help as a volunteer in 2019. In addition to my experience on the Yukon River, I gained long-distance experience in 2019 by paddling with some teammates in a C6 Outrigger the Prague-Hamburg race, which leads 800 km down the river Elbe in 5 days.I've been practicing paddle sport since 2010 and I also love to hike and run. As Captain of our Dragonboatteam, which is listed in the 2nd German Dragonboat League, I train every week.
Our aim is to have a good and challenging time on the River and perform even better than in 2017.
After my participation in 2017 and my experience as a volunteer in 2019 I´m happy to be back at the paddle in 2020. Love the race, the people in the Yukon Territory and the amazing landscape!

To be faster than 2017.Do my best for the team.
It’s a great challenge in a great environment. Paddling on the Yukon is an everlasting experience.
I started with canoe racing when I was a teenager and this was the beginning of my passion for water sports in general. In 2012 I joined the Dragonboatteam "Hai Voltage" and gained a lot of (national as well as international) experience in this beautiful team sport. We train every week to improve our performance continuously. Furthermore, I love to have active holidays, e.g. by hiking in New Zealand, cycling in Cuba, canoeing in Norway or joining husky tours in Scandinavia.
For me it will be one of my greatest challenges in sport so far. This will be my first experience on the Yukon River and the aim is to archive a good result. At least we want to perform better than our team did in 2017 in the Voyageur Class.
My teammates, who have already done the race before, convinced me to be part of the 2020 team. So, we will stand together as team and we will paddle hart. For me it will be my first summer in the Yukon and in Canada and I´m looking forward to enjoy my stay there.

Thanks to my parents I've been involved with paddling, camping, hiking, and even the River Quest since I was four. I've started and finished the race twice: once in a C2 (2016) and once in a Voyageur (2018).
The aim is always to get to the finish and this year I can party in Dawson so that's a plus.
The original plan for the team was to get a bunch of Skagway High School XC/TF alum and see what they could do, now we paddle for Buckwheat's memory.

My love for endurance kayaking started in 2015 with my first experience in the California 100. The Cal 100 is a 100 mile race down the Sacramento River. I completed this race three times: 2015, 2016, 2019.In 2018 along with two other solo kayakers, I completed a Farallon Islands (middle island) circumnavigation. That was an open ocean 15 + hour paddle over 30 miles offshore.
To finish before the cut off is my main aim.

Career outdoor leader/professor with over 20 years as a paddling instructor and guide, across the Yukon, BWCAW, British Columbia, Western USA, & Alaska.Liam and I completed the race in 2018, making him the youngest finisher in YRQ history, then leveled up (2019), were quarantined with everyone else in 2020 (meaning we had to miss the YRQ & Yukon 1000), and we've added my wife and oldest daughter to the mix for this year's race as a C4 team!In addition to racing the YRQ last year, I paddled over 1000 miles, including the YRQ and the Eagle to Circle route (twice) in 2019, plan to paddle while maintaining "social distance" across summer 2020, and we're launching our own Yukon River (USA) canoe expedition company this year as the next step in our Yukon endeavors.
Introduce the Palmer ladies to the race, and sleep while everyone else is paddling... or maybe, we'll go really, really fast?
The YRQ has become a highlight of our family's goals and annual schedule. As each of our children reach race-eligible age, they plan to join the tradition that Liam and I started.
Age: 17 previous races: 2018,2019
