I have never been in a race yet, but I do have some wilderness experience. I grew up in the Yukon and I love to hike, bike and am now adding paddling to my list of things I love to do.
I want to get to Dawson - this place of wonder - where I was born, with this amazing group of women. I want to continue on where we left off last year - more laughter, more song and more togetherness.
Personal growth with women who have shared similar life experiences.

I enjoy the mental and physical challenges of this race and being alone on the water allows me to get in touch with myself and my surroundings. It's one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life, but finishing this race left me with a high that lasted for weeks. I guess it's sort of addictive ;-)

I already finished the 2017 YRQ in Voyageur class with my team and had the chance to help as a volunteer in 2019. In addition to my experience in the Yukon River, I gained long-distance experience in 2019 by paddling with some teammates in a C6 Outrigger the Prague-Hamburg race, which leads 800 km down the river Elbe in 5 days.
I've been practicing paddle sports since 2010 and also I love to hike and run. As captain of our dragonboat team, which is listet in the 2nd German Dragonboat League, I train every week.
Our aim ist to have a good challenging time on the river and perform even better than in 2017.
After my participation in 2017 YRQ, my experience as a volunteer in 2019 and two years of travel restrictions I'm happy to be back at the paddle this year. Love the race, the people in the Yukon Territory and the amazing landscape!

Successfully attending the YRQ in 2019.
For 20 years I train 2 to 3 times a week regularly in a gym. I have been in a running team for about 5 years. I often walk distances of 10 to 15 kilometers as well as half marathon. My other sporting activities include hiking, climbing, cycling and skiing. Since the year 2010 I have been able to gain experience paddling especially in the dragon boat. In a dragon boat club I take part in several competitions in the year.

For 15 years, I go to a gym four times a week and keep fit with strength and endurance training. I especially like running at endurance training and cycling. I have been collecting paddling experience for 3 years during the dragon boat training.

Since 2010 I have been training dragon boat regularly 2 to 3 times a week.
Over the past few years I have participated in a number of dragon boat competitions with
the teams Hai Voltage and Freak Show.
I am also active as a trainer in judo and sumo twice a week and I keep fit with fitness,
walking and skiing.
Making it to the finish line with my team and winning lots of wonderful experiences.
I found out about this race from a team member from the paddling team and I would like to
experience this. I love the sporting challenge with the entire team and the great landscape.

In 2017 our team “Hai Voltage” successfully finished the Yukon River Quest; several long distance races with the dragon boat team as well.
Sports are an integrated part of my life. Since 2007 I am paddling in a dragonboat sports team.
Finishing in less than 59 hours (our time in 2017)
experience again the days and nights on the Yukon.

Age: 39

In teenage years I came to canoe racing. From this point on I am connected to water sports. Since 2012 I joined the dragon boat team "Hai Voltage". Here we are training weekly for the sports competitions. Even my holiday I spend active, hiking in New Zealand, cycling in Cuba, making husky tours in Scandinavia or canoeing in Norway.
For me it will be a new sporting challenge. Because this is my first race of the river "Yukon" and we want paddling a good time, which is better then that of 2017. That was paddled by our team in the Voyageur Class.
Dragon boat colleagues who finished the "YRQ" 2017 have raved about it and convinced me to take part. So we want to tackle the adventure in 2022 together. And for me it is the first time I fly to Canada, it is supposed be a very beautiful country.

I love to be in the nature and to life an active lifestyle. Running, hiking as well as paddling are my passions which I share with my wonderful wife Mandy who will also be in the upcoming race. We both took part in a lot of national and international Dragonboat competitions with different teams in the last years.
In 2019 I finished the YRQ with my friends and my wife in the Voyageur class, were I also was the team captain. One year later I successfully completed the virtual YRQ.
I want to have a drink in the saloon in Dawson City early in the evening of June 25 with the proud feeling of having delivered the best possible performance I could.
By participating in the 2019 YRQ, I got to know the territory and the people of the Yukon and knew I had to come back to complete the race in a single kayak. My training started at the end of 2019 and was supposed to end with the race in 2020. Bu due to the repeated cancellations of 2020 and 2021 I am now training for the third year to make my dream come true.
Since the end of 2019, there has hardly been a week that I haven't trained in my kayak for this epic race.

I grew up in the Yukon -kayaking, canoeing and rafting.
To complete the race safely, enjoy the challenge, and push myself.
I have watched others training for this every winter and spring and have always thought “that looks so cool, I want to do it someday”.but I have always made excuses “ life is to busy” . A friend looked me in the face on a paddle last summer and said “so when are you going to do it”, almost daring me to say I couldn’t. And I decided in that second that this was the year to try it. Already after several months of consistent training I feel different in the best way possible. I am doing this race to get stronger, and to prove to myself that I can do hard things.

FROM CV Submitted... Kayaking experience..
multiple (roughly 6) multi day kayak trips of 3 to 8 days, including Desolation Sound and the Broken Island group, both on Vancouver Island. I have done a little (one) river run in Clearwater BC in my little surf kayak. Have been kayaking for about 20 years, current boat is a KevlarP&H Cetus HV, lovely quick! Longest paddle to date would be a 10hr return run to Squirrel Cove when the weather crapped out. About 40km, ocean crossing with current and tides. So a far cry from the 750+ km of this race, but still.. with the River flowing at average 8-10 km/hr, I get about 450 free kms! Discounting for the first 87 km of lake Laberge.
Have also been a backwoods camper (up to 6 days), have done the West Coast Trail (+/- 80km) a couple of times, (1978 and 2010) the Juan de Fuca Trail many times. Was a Land Surveyor, so have worked in the bush a LOT, and have taken Wilderness and backcountry First Aid a few times, although the last one was in 1998.
Have mountain climbing (Alpine) as a semi-serious pursuit, and have been up to 7000m (Aconcagua), several mountains in Nepal, Kilimanjaro, and Mont Blanc. Typical climb is about 12days. Ascent days can be up to 20 hours of non-stop activity.
Longest endurance event would be the Seattle to Portland (STP 200) bike ride (not a race!) , 320 km and was in the saddle for 16 hours.
To finish in under 60 hours. .. Okay, maybe 64..?
The YQR has been on the margins of the bucket list for a few years, since about 2014 when we were up in Yukon for a vacation. Watched part of the race, and went for a little paddle. Love being out and about and on the water.
