Memento Mori; a philosophical phrase used as my team name and life motto. A constant reminder that we all must one day die. However, this is not a morbid reason for entering the race, instead reminding myself to postpone nothing and really live the life I have been given to the full. Not taking anything for granted, living for those we have sadly lost, whilst striving to achieve my absolute potential.I have a real passion for competing in multiple sports, always striving to push personal physical and mental boundaries. I feel this race will test me to the full surrounded by amazing like minded individuals with lifelong friendships to be made.

I want to join because for me this is the ultimate challenge on SUP. After Bart de Zwart (who I know since he was a baby) told me I should and more importantly could do this and Göran Gustavssen and Janneke Smits-van Leeuwen and Ella Oesterholt told me too, I decided to go for it.

Multiple multi day kayak trips including Desolation Sound and the Broken Island group, both on Vancouver Island. Last Years epic YRQ!
To finish in under 60 hours. .. Okay, maybe 64..?
The YQR has been on the margins of the bucket list for a few years, since about 2014 when we were up in Yukon for a vacation. Watched part of the race, and went for a little paddle. Love being out and about and on the water.

I love to be in the nature and to life an active lifestyle. Running, hiking as well as paddling are my passions which I share with my wonderful wife Mandy who was also in some YRQ races. We both took part in a lot of national and international Dragonboat competitions with different teams in the last years. In 2019 I finished the YRQ in the Voyageur class, were I also was the team captain. One year later I successfully completed the virtual YRQ.In 2022 I took part in the YRQ but didn't finish.
Finish the race in less than 55 hours!
By participating in the 2019 YRQ, I got to know the territory and the people of the Yukon and knew I had to come back to complete the race in a single kayak. My training started at the end of 2019 and was supposed to end with the race in 2020. But due to the repeated cancellations of 2020 and 2021 I had to wait until 2022, but this race ended in a DNF. So I will be back in this year to fulfill my dream of finishing this epic race.
